ICANN Takes Control Over The Internet Time Zone Master List
ICANN has assumed control over the internet time zone master list, after it had recently
been taken down through an aggressive copyright lawsuit. The internet time zone master list
had been a free public domain, volunteer driven project since it's beginning. Today, many
computer systems and the internet as a whole have become to dependent on it. Recently, in
an apparent power grab, ICANN assumed control over the list. ICANN is a private/profit
driven company based in the United States. They are most recently known for monopolizing
the dns system and allowing websites to be censored for the U.S. government. Now they
also control the time..
"The Time Zone Database provides an essential service on the Internet and keeping it operational falls within ICANN's mission of maintaining a stable and dependable Internet," said Akram Atallah, ICANN's chief operating officer. ICANN claims to have taken control of the database at the request of the Internet Engineering Task Force, which is another company being led under the influence of verisign and the NSA.
