Thank you for contacting me regarding the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property (PROTECT IP) Act, S. 968. I appreciated hearing your thoughts on this issue.
As you know, this bill would allow for the Attorney General or an intellectual property owner harmed by any website dedicated to infringing on such intellectual property to bring actions against the owner of the website or the registrant for the site’s domain name in an effort to curtail U.S. entities supporting or directing internet traffic to websites believed to be in violation of copyright law. S. 968 has been advanced by the Senate Judiciary Committee and is now waiting to be scheduled for debate by the full Senate. Rest assured, I will keep your thoughts in mind as this legislation moves forward.
Thank you again for contacting me. The legislative process will only work with the input of concerned citizens such as yourself, and I encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and ideas.
Sincerely,
Ben Nelson
U.S. Senator
