David Price Supports H.R. 2306

.
Thank you for contacting me to convey your support for H.R. 2306, the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011. It is good to hear from you, and I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts on this issue.

I support the right of states to determine whether to legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, and I have voted for amendments to restrict the Justice Department from prosecuting individuals for the medical use of marijuana in states where the practice is permissible under state law. I also voted for the Fair Sentencing Act, enacted in 2010, which eliminated the 5-year mandatory minimum sentence for first-time simple possession of crack cocaine and reduced the sentencing disparities between crack and powder cocaine.

As you know, H.R. 2306 would effectively remove federal restrictions on the distribution and consumption of marijuana. The bill has been referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce and on Judiciary; should it come before the full House for a vote, I will consider it carefully, keeping your views in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me, and please continue to keep in touch on issues of concern to you.

Sincerely,
DAVID PRICE
U.S. Member of Congress
