Thank you for contacting me about the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act. It's good to hear from you.
As you may know, this legislation aims to protect copyrighted information on the Internet. It would authorize the Attorney General, or an intellectual property right owner allegedly harmed by online copyright violations, to bring legal action against the owner of the site infringing on his or her intellectual property. This bill is currently before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
While protecting intellectual property rights and online businesses is very important, we must also ensure that the principle of a free and open Internet is maintained. I will continue to closely monitor this legislation, and I will keep your views in mind if it comes before the full Senate. Please do not hesitate to contact me again if I can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Jon Tester
United States Senator
