Thank you for contacting me about
H.R. 1981, the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
H.R. 1981 directs Internet Service Providers to retain subscriber information for up to 18 months in order to assist federal law enforcement in online child pornography and child exploitation investigations. The bill also makes it a federal crime to financially facilitate the sale, distribution and purchase of child pornography and it increases the maximum penalty for certain child pornography offenses.
H.R. 1981 has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary's Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, where it is pending further consideration. Rest assured that I will keep your views in mind should this bill come before the full U.S. House of Representatives for a vote.
Once again, thank you for contacting me and please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other issue.
Sincerely,
Jim McGovern
U.S. Member of Congress
